2012 Virginia Small Business Summit

The 2012 Virginia Small Business Summit brought together hundreds of small business leaders and policymakers from across the Commonwealth. The Summit was held on Friday, September 21, which has been designated Small Business Day in Virginia thanks in part to the work of VASBP.

Since its inception in 2010, the Summit has served as a forum for small business leaders across the Commonwealth to discuss ways to strengthen Virginia’s small business environment. The proposals and solutions discussed at the Summit are compiled into The Official Findings of the Virginia Small Business Summit, which is presented to the Governor and members of the General Assembly. The document has led to numerous pieces of legislation and provided countless ideas for Virginia lawmakers.

Keynote speakers at this year’s Summit included Virginia State Senator J. Chap Petersen, who delivered the morning address, and Attorney General of Virginia Ken Cuccinelli, who delivered the address for the afternoon session.

The 2012 Summit focused on five core issues: healthcare, energy, contracting and procurement, education, and small business manufacturing. Each topic was discussed in a roundtable format, and discussion was moderated by experts in each field. Attendees also had the opportunity to participate in plenary sessions covering the Dulles rail project’s impact on business and small business financing.
